On October 8, the Tuna Canyon Detention Station Coalition invites all descendants of detainees, friends, and family for a reunion at the Quiet Cannon in Montebello from 11:00. We have been honored to receive a new National Parks grant to record stories with the children of the detainees (who are in their 80’s and 90’s). The traveling exhibit has been well received during its run with the Japanese American Historical Society of San Diego, Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles, Manzanar Historic site, Pasadena a Playhouse and now at Bolton Hall Museum in Tujunga. This grant will interview 25 more individuals.

The Grateful Crane Ensemble has produced a special tribute named “Only the Oaks Remain.” A traditional rose ceremony in memory of ancestors will mark this important occasion. Sponsorship opportunities are available.

The Luncheon is fundraiser for our Tuna Canyon Detention Station Legacy Project. To help us raise monies for the matching grant we received from National Park Service. It is to help us search and record oral histories of the descendants of Tuna Canyon. We are striving to find record and preserve the stories of the TC descendants.

“For almost 75 years, these names were only honored in the hearts and memories of detainee family members. Behind each one is a tragic personal and family saga of unwarranted and unnecessary injustice and suffering. Now these individuals have been brought out of the darkness into sunlight, and we can all begin to hear their stories and the lessons they contain.” ….Dr. Russell Endo, grandson of Heigoro Endo
